The Washington School Board discusses an item during their meeting Wednesday.

The Washington School Board approved a measure to increase the funds available for special education at their regular meeting Wednesday evening at the Washington Middle School. Business manager Jeff Dieleman explained it is similar to action taken last year which allows the program to recover funds. Last night the board approved allowable growth and supplemental aid for a negative special education balance not to exceed $250,000 for the school year that just ended. Last year it was $189,000 and he expects it to be between $170-200,000 this school year.

Dieleman added that as of Wednesday it was over $60,000 before transportation costs were taken into account. The final figures will be turned in by the end of the month. Superintendent Jeff Dicks explained it recovers money for the general fund.
