In southeast Iowa, 37 percent of soybeans have been harvested, slightly ahead of the five-year average. According to Meaghan Anderson, field agronomist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, yield reports for soybeans are in the upper 50s to low 60s in bushels per acre. Anderson adds there is quite a bit of variability due to management practices, disease presence and environment, especially as you head further south in the state. Washington County’s 10-year average yield is 51 bushels per acre.
At this time, across Iowa, 24 percent of soybeans are in excellent condition, 53 percent are good and 18 percent are fair.
