Tractors, large farm equipment and combines are out on roads as harvest gets underway and motorists are reminded to keep an eye out and drive safely. This machinery is at risk to hit overhead power electric lines, power poles and natural gas pipelines. Alliant Energy reminds those working around the machinery to stay at least 10 feet away from power lines. If a vehicle comes into contact with a power line, stay in the vehicle until emergency personnel tells you it is safe to exit. However, if there is immediate danger of a fire, jump out of the vehicle and land with both feet together while never touching the equipment and the ground at the same time.

In addition, remember to call 811 at least three business days before digging so buried utility lines can be marked.
