The USDA has announced that the deadline for getting cover crops in the ground for the winter has been extended. Farmers who are participating in state cost share programs and most federal financial assistance programs has been extended until November 15th.

Dan Mahoney with the Washington County Soil and Water Conservation district office says this extension will allow farmer’s to have time to finish their harvest without having to worry about getting their cover crops in.

Mahoney says any farmer who might have trouble meeting the new deadline should contact his office at 653-6654.
