The main attraction for Washington’s annual homecoming celebration takes place tonight at Case Field. The Washington Demon football team (5-1 overall; 3-0 Class 3A District 5) puts their five game winning streak on the line tonight, battling Southeast Conference member the Keokuk Chiefs (1-5 overall; 1-3 Class 3A District 5).

Washington survived a shootout last Friday in Fort Madison, outlasting the Bloodhounds (1-5 overall; 0-3 Class 3A District 5), 54-35. It was the most points scored by the Demons in a game this season, and is the most points Washington’s defense has allowed since their week one loss to the Pella Little Dutch, 42-24.

Washington has fared well against their homecoming opponents in the recent past. The Demons have won back-to-back homecoming matchups, and five of their previous six games. Their lone homecoming loss in the last six seasons came in 2012, a 16-10 loss to the Marion Indians.

Recent games between the Demons and the Chiefs have gone the way of Washington as well. The Demons have won the previous three meetings with the Chiefs, outscoring Keokuk 166-48. Last season, Washington cruised to a 67-27 victory over Keokuk at Calvert Stadium.

KCII’s coverage of Washington Demon football will begin with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 7 p.m. and the Coleman Construction Opening Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
