A complete performance in front of a spirited homecoming crowd helped the Washington Demon football team (6-1 overall; 4-0 Class 3A District 5) clinch a return trip to the postseason.

Washington hosted the Keokuk Chiefs (1-6 overall; 0-5 Class 3A District 5) at Case Field Friday. The Demons amassed 450 yards of total offense, extending their winning streak to six games with a 50-7 triumph over the Chiefs. The win assures Washington a spot in the Class 3A playoffs for a fourth straight season.

Sophomore Ryan Reighard surpassed 1,000 yards rushing Friday night, recording 217 yards on 18 carries and scoring five total touchdowns in the victory. His 143 rushes for 1049 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns are all top marks in the district.

The Demons can secure a home playoff game with a victory this week against their Southeast Conference rivals the winless Mount Pleasant Panthers (0-7 overall; 0-4 Class 3A District 5). The Panthers have yet to win a game on the gridiron this season, including falling 43-33 to the Fairfield Trojans last Friday in Mount Pleasant’s homecoming game.

Live play-by-play coverage of Washington’s senior night football game versus the Mount Pleasant Panthers begins Friday at 7 p.m. with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show.
