Farmers have been spending hours in the fields and harvesting crops in southeast Iowa. According to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service 95 percent of corn in southeast Iowa is mature and 30 percent has been harvested for grain already, ahead of the five-year average and the state’s overall rate of harvest.

Washington County’s 10-year average corn yield is 163 bushels per acre, the highest was in 2014 with 191 bushels per acre, according to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. At this time 26 percent of Iowa’s corn is in excellent condition, 54 percent is good and 16 percent is fair – only one percent is very poor.
