The #6 Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team suffered their first loss of 2015 Friday night falling to #7 Williamsburg 25-0.

Not only was Friday’s game a top 10 match up, it was also a clash of the top two teams in class 2A district six. Williamsburg opened the scoring in the waning moments of the first quarter when Blake Hughes muscled his way into the endzone from one yard out, falling a blocked extra point the score was 6-0 Raiders.
Hughes allowed Williamsburg to double their lead three minutes into the second half when he scored on a three yard touchdown run at the nine minute mark of the second quarter. The Raider defense held the Golden Hawks on the next possession and Williamsburg went for the knockout punch on the next play and connected. Noah Heitschusen ran a beautiful double move route and quarterback Vic Malloy hit him in stride for the touchdown from 43 yards out to set the score at 19-0 Raiders at halftime.
The second half was more of the same as Mid-Prairie struggled to get the offense going and the defense couldn’t match up with the Raider offensive tempo and weapons. The Raiders got a pair second half field goals for insurance off the toe of Miguel Sanchez, the first at the 4:22 mark of the third quarter from 34 yards out, the second at the 10:36 mark of the fourth quarter from 30 yards away, to push the final score to 25-0.
On the night Mid-Prairie was outgained 404-290, including 232-166 on the ground and 172-124 through the air. The Raiders had 23 first downs to Mid-Prairie’s 13, the Raiders were 9 of 16 on third down while Mid-Prairie was just two of nine. The Raiders were very good in the money part of the field, going four of five in red zone score chances.
Mid-Prairie was led in the game by Ricky Vargas with 10 carries for 88 yards on the ground, Ryan Cortum was nine of 25 for 124 yards and two interceptions. Levi Duwa was his favorite target with five catches for 93 yards. Williamsburg had Allyn Francis finish with end with 122 yards on 19 carries. Raider quarterback Vic Malloy was 17/27 for 172 yards a touchdown, and an interception.
With the loss Mid-Prairie falls to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in district play while the Raiders take over the top spot in the district at 5-1 overall and 4-0 in district play. Mid-Prairie will next be in action next Friday when they host the Central Lee Hawks.
