Rain is in the forecast for Washington tomorrow, the first rain in over four weeks. Usually by this time in October the area has received 1.76 inches of precipitation. The KCII-listening area is under a red flag warning until 7 p.m. this evening (10/19). The warning is due to extreme fire conditions with winds at 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts reaching 40 miles per hour, in addition to a low relative humidity.

According to the National Weather Service, crop and agricultural fuels are over 90 percent cured and wild grasses are 60 to 70 percent cured and combustible. Harvesting crops during this time will create a larger threat and grassy areas near farm fields can easily start from embers carried by the wind.

Outdoor burning is discouraged and should be avoided. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
