For a fourth time this fall, the Highland Huskies (19-12 overall) and the Columbus Wildcats (6-23 overall) squared off on the volleyball court. Tuesday evening’s meeting was for the right to move on in the Class 2A Region 8 tournament. Like the previous three meetings, Highland took care of business in straight sets, winning 25-14, 25-15, 25-21.

Highland senior Brianna Davis did her part in advancing her volleyball career into next week. She led the Huskies with 10 kills and 11 assists in the victory. Junior Kelsey Hora dug up a team high 18 balls and was a perfect seven for seven serving.

The victory improves Highland to 19-12 overall on the season, winning four more games than they did during their 2014 season. The Huskies have a good chance to win their 20th match of the fall next Tuesday versus the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons (0-27 overall). Louisa-Muscatine hasn’t won a match all season, and lost to the Huskies twice this season.

The teams first met in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball tournament on September 5, a match won by Highland in straight sets, (21-16, 21-9). The two teams met 12 days later in the school’s regular season match, a contest also won by Highland in straight sets (25-14, 25-9, 25-11).

The second round of the Class 2A Region 8 volleyball tournament will be held next Tuesday with first serve set for 7 p.m. at Highland High School.
