Cedar Rapids Kennedy plays host to one of five Iowa High School class 1A boys and girls state qualifying cross country meets Thursday night at their Seminole Valley course.

The KCII listening area is well represented at this meet with Highland, Iowa Mennonite, Keota, Lone Tree, Sigourney, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union all in attendance.

The boys side of the meet has a total of three ranked teams participating including the No. 2 ranked Bellevue boys , No. 9 Iowa City Regina boys and No. 13 ranked Central Elkader boys . Other teams participating in the meet on the boys side include Alburnett, Calamus-Wheatland, Clayton Ridge, Guttenberg, Durant, Easton Valley, English Valleys, Harmony, Holy Trinity Catholic, Maquoketa Valley, Marquette Catholic, Midland, Prince of Peace, Rivermont Collegiate, Scattergood Friends, Starmont, and Wapello.

Individually the boys field has three ranked runners, led by a tandem from Bellevue. Andrew Meyer is the top ranked runner in the state in class 1A and his Bellevue teammate Andrew Sagella checks in at No. 13 in the latest poll. Highland’s own Kieffer Sexton is ranked No. 14 in the latest individual poll.

The girls portion of the race has five ranked schools, led by Iowa City Regina, the Runnin’ Regals are No. 6 in the latest state rankings. In the field they are followed by: No. 9 Starmont, No 15 Bellevue Marquette Catholic, No. 16 Bellevue and No. 17 Durant. Other girls teams participating include, Calamus-Wheatland, Central Elkader, Clayton Ridge, Guttenberg, Easton Valley, Edgewood-Colesburg, English Valleys, Harmony, Holy Trinity Catholic, Maquoketa Valley, Marquette Catholic, Midland, Price of Peace, Rivermont Collegiate, Tri-County, and Wapello.

The girls field includes six individually ranked runners led by another Bellevue tandem. No. 3 ranked Camryn Reeg is the highest ranked runner in the field, her teammate Kailey Miller is also in the latest poll at No. 19. Central Elkader also has a pair of runners in the latest poll with Haley Schroder at No. 4 and Ciera Deitchler at No. 5. Durant boasts the state’s No. 1 runner in Class 1A. The Wildcats are represented by Alyssa Williams in tonight’s field. Starmont’s Bianca Malone stands at No. 10 in the state entering tonight’s action and Iowa City Regina’s Molly Blondin is No. 13.

Action in the 1A race at Seminole Valley begins at 3PM this afternoon.
