Overnight temperatures have been in the 40’s and 30’s recently and area furnaces are beginning to be turned on. Next week applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program can be submitted. The program helps pay a portion of residential heating costs for eligible households during the winter months. Applications are accepted on a first come first served basis. According to HACAP, Hawkeye Community Action Program, those who apply will simultaneously be applying for weatherization assistance.

LIHEAP runs through April 30th each year and is available to those who meet the income guidelines. For more information, including how to apply, click here.
