Temperatures are falling to the low-40’s this week and applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program can now be submitted for households with an elderly or disabled member. Those who have a disconnect notice or who are currently disconnected may also apply at this time for the program. LIHEAP aims to help low-income families meet the cost of heating their homes during the cold months.

According to HACAP, Hawkeye Community Action Program, it often benefits a family by a form of credit applied to a utility company heating bill. In addition to LIHEAP, those who apply will simultaneously be applying for weatherization assistance. LIHEAP runs through April 30th each year and is available to those who meet the income guidelines.
