Mid-Prairie Set for State

The Mid-Prairie girls cross country team will make the trip to Fort Dodge today to compete in the class 2A Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State meet.

Mid-Prairie qualified as a team by winning the state qualifying meet team championship at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Columbus Junction on October 22nd. The Golden Hawks edged Williamsburg in the meet by a 54-59 total. At the state qualifier, Mid-Prairie was led by Anna Hostetler in fourth place with her time of 20:03. Other Golden Hawk finishers included Maddi Zahradnek sixth, Hannah Van Roekel 12th, Greta Schmidt 14th, Kessa Jones 20th, Abby Tornow 31st and Kate Cavanagh 32nd.

This is the second straight year the Mid-Prairie girls have qualified for the state meet as a team. At least year’s event in Fort Dodge the Golden Hawks finished sixth overall with their team score of 169 points. Monticello was the 2014 state champion with their score of 63 points. Top finisher for the Golden Hawks was Anna Hostetler in sixth with a time of 15:38. The 2014 individual state champion was Paige Holub of Monticello with her time of 14:58. Other Mid-Prairie finishers included Maddi Zahradnek 18th, Abby Tornow 23rd, Greta Schmidt 58th, Calli Shaw 64th, Hannah Van Roekel 65th and Shelby Zahradnek 85th. The 2015 edition of the Golden Hawk girls enters the state meet ranked sixth in the latest Iowa Association of Track Coaches Poll. Anna Hostetler is the lone member of the Golden Hawk squad who is ranked, she checks in at 22nd in the individual poll.

The class 2A girls state cross country meet is set for this afternoon in Fort Dodge.
