Meeting for a third time in in five days, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks volleyball team (10-10 overall) welcomed their county rivals the Washington Demons (5-19 overall) to Tim Grady Gymnasium for a non-conference tilt. The Hawks once again downed the Demons in straight sets, (25-10, 26-24, 25-14).

Mid-Prairie honored a trio of seniors during the match, including Emily Cayton, Ashley Hentrich, and Jasmine Jones, all of whom played pivotal roles in the Hawks’ 10th win of the season. Jones smashed 11 kills, second only to freshman Jayden Evans (15), and went nine for 11 serving with two aces. Cayton added seven kills for Mid-Prairie while digging up a team-high 14 balls defensively. Hentrich was a perfect six for six serving.

The two teams met twice over the weekend during the annual Hawk tournament, and Mid-Prairie came away with a pair of sweeps. The Golden Hawks won the pool play match (21-11, 21-9) and also was victorious in the consolation match (25-16, 25-12).

The win evens the Golden Hawks’ overall record at 10-10, while the loss drops Washington to 5-19. Mid-Prairie resumes play on Tuesday, traveling to Iowa City for a River Valley Conference match against the Iowa City Regina Regals (10-13 overall). The Demons are off until hosting their annual volleyball tournament next Saturday at Washington High School.
