Over 175 volunteers joined together Sunday afternoon to package food for Kids Against Hunger and the local HACAP to help feed people in Washington County. The Washington Area Ministerial Association held the event Sunday at the KC Hall in Washington. Pastor Maureen Howard of Immanuel Lutheran Church explains HACAP, or Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, serves between 140 and 150 boxes of food each month locally. Sunday 100 boxes of food were packaged for HACAP and 16,000 meals were put together for Kids Against Hunger.
Howard adds the churches also hold a weekly meal for anyone in the community that is completely free and open to everyone in the community. The Saturday Kitchen’s lunch is held at the United Presbyterian Church every week and begins at 11 a.m.
