The upcoming pheasant season, which opens on Saturday, looks promising for area hunters according to Chad Dolan, Fisheries Biologist at Lake Darling State Park.

Dolan says the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is seeing the highest pheasant numbers since 2008. Plus with the corn harvest ahead of schedule, he’s expecting it to be a good opening weekend. The pheasant count in the southeast Iowa region was the third highest in the state.

Hunter’s can shoot from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily with a possession limit of 12. Pheasant season runs until January 16th.
