Lt. Charles W. Smith

From the front lines in France to a town in Kentucky, one soldier’s letters during World War II sent home are the focal point of a play in Washington this weekend. The play presented by the Washington Community Theater is titled My Father’s War and was created by Martha Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, who says the show is for all ages, as the older generations will remember the references to songs and culture and younger generations will learn of the history and impact of the war.

The F-Troop Military Museum has artifacts from the war on display in the lobby and the Washington County Veterans Commission will also be present. The show is at 7:30 tonight and Saturday and Sunday it will be on the stage at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the box office or visiting the theater’s website.
