SEISC Seniors End Cross Country Career at State Run

Three senior runners from Southeast Iowa Super Conference schools in the KCII listening area will finish their cross country careers at the state meet in Fort Dodge. Columbus’s Josh Keller qualified for the Class 2A race while Highland’s Keiffer Sexton and Winfield-Mount Union’s Johnathan Quinn earned a spot in the Class 1A field.

Keller won last Thursday’s Class 2A State qualifying race at the Cedarcrest Country Club in Columbus Junction, recording a time of 16:50. The Iowa Track and Field coaches have ranked Keller the 16th best runner in Class 2A.

Sexton and Quinn each competed in the Class 1A state qualifying race in Cedar Rapids. Sexton was the field’s third best finish, clocking a time of 16:34. The Iowa Track and Field coaches have ranked Sexton the 14th best runner in Class 1A. Quinn was five places behind Sexton, recording a time of 17:07.

Joining Sexton and Quinn at state is W-MU junior Gavin Bencze. Bencze crossed the finish line in 16:45, the fourth best result in the race. Bencze enters the state race as the Iowa Track and Field coaches 27th ranked runner in Class 1A.

All four runners competed in last year’s state meet in Fort Dodge. Sexton had the best result of the area runners, placing fourth with a time of 16:41. Bencze crossed the finish line in 17:25, the 22nd best result. Keller recorded the 48th best time at 17:56, while Quinn rounds out the area finishers in 50th place with a run of 17:58.

The Class 2A boys race is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. with the Class 1A race set for 2:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Listen to Monday’s KCII Sports Page for full results from the state cross country competition.
