Week 7 of the high school football season proved to be a milestone week for several KCII area athletes. Three running backs and a quarterback reached the 1,000-yard rushing plateau last Friday.

Washington sophomore quarterback Ryan Reighard joined the thousand yard club after a stellar homecoming performance versus the Keokuk Chiefs (1-6 overall; 0-4 Class 3A District 5). He rushed for 217 yards on 18 carries, averaging 12.1 yards per carry, and scored four rushing touchdowns in a 50-7 win. Through the first seven starts of his varsity career, Reighard has amassed 1,049 yards and has scored 17 rushing touchdowns. He ranks seventh in Class 3A in rushing yards and is fourth in the state in rushing touchdowns.

Despite being held under 100 yards for just the second time this season, WACO senior running back Bryce Achen earned enough yards to surpass 1,000 for the season. He accumulated 80 yards on 25 carries, scoring two touchdowns in a 36-13 setback to the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (7-0 overall; 5-0 Class A District 6) Friday. He now sits at 1,018 yards rushing, third best in Class A District 6 and his 17 rushing touchdowns tops the district.

The Lone Tree Lions (4-3 overall; 3-2 Class A District 6) might have suffered their third loss of the season Friday in Packwood, but it wasn’t because of the lack of effort from senior running back Jared Hudson. Hudson rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-20 loss to the Pekin Panthers (6-1 overall; 5-0 Class A District 6). For the season, Hudson has rushed for 1,070 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Finally, for a third straight season, Columbus senior running back Mauricio Ramirez is a member of the 1,000 yard rushing club. He rushed for 108 yards and a touchdowns in a 56-18 loss to the Pella Christian Eagles (5-2 overall; 3-1 Class 1A District 6). His week 7 performance pushed his season rushing total to 1,019 yards and he has scored a dozen rushing touchdowns.

Sigourney-Keota senior Peyton Crawford achieved 1,000 yards rushing last week in a 48-6 victory over the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets. He added 210 yards and four touchdowns in a 54-20 victory over the Highland Huskies (3-4 overall; Class 1A District 6) Friday. His season total in rushing ballooned to 1,220 yards and he has now scored 18 rushing touchdowns this season.
