The final week of the regular season will have serious playoff implications for several teams in the KCII listening area.

The last week of the regular season begins on Thursday this week when the Washington Demons (7-1 overall; 5-0 Class 3A District 5) travels to the Quad Cities to face the Davenport Assumption Knights (6-2 overall; 5-0 Class 3A District 5) for the Class 3A District 5 title. Live play-by-play coverage from Brady Street Stadium in Davenport begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 7 p.m. Thursday on KCII and KCIIRadio.com.

There’s another winner take all-district championship, this time in Class A District 6, scheduled for Friday evening in Winfield as the W-MU Wolves (8-0 overall; 6-0 Class A District 6) meets the Pekin Panthers (7-1 overall; 6-0 Class A District 6). Pekin’s only loss of the season came against a KCII area foe. The Sigourney-Keota Cobras (5-3 overall; 4-1 Class A District 6) upended the Panthers, 44-12 in Week 2. KCII Sports will have a special broadcast of W-MU’s senior night game with Pekin beginning Friday at 7 p.m. with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.

Speaking of the Cobras, they are trying to solidify a home playoff game in the Class 1A playoffs as they travel to West Marshall to finish the district season. Sigourney-Keota has lost three games this season to teams with a combine record of 23-1, including Class A No.1 B.G.M. and Class 1A No. 1 Iowa City Regina. They have won their previous three football games, averaging 53.3 points during the streak.

Despite dropping three straight district football games, the WACO Warriors football team (3-5 overall; 3-3 Class A District 6) can clinch a playoff spot in the Class A playoffs with a senior night victory over the Danville Bears (2-6 overall; 2-4 Class A District 6).

Finally, with some help from Sigourney-Keota, the Columbus Wildcats (2-6 overall; 1-5 Class 1A District 6) can end a long playoff drought this Friday with a victory over the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets (1-7 overall; Class 1A District 6). The Wildcats haven’t participated in a playoff football game since 1997.

The Lone Tree Lions (5-3 overall; 4-2 Class A District 6) already clinch a spot in the Class A playoffs but will be on the road in the first round of the playoffs as either a three or four seed. The Lions end the regular season on Friday, traveling to New London to battle the Tigers (4-4 overall; 3-3 Class A District 6).
