Tuesday afternoon’s rough weather in southeast Iowa caused one regional volleyball contest to be postponed.

Sigourney and Tri-County were unable to play at their initially scheduled time at 7PM Tuesday night due to a power outage at Sigourney High School. The two schools were able to reschedule the match for this evening at 7PM in Sigourney. The Savages enter the match with a 9-15 overall record for the season, they were 5-5 in the South Iowa Cedar League this season. Sigourney has dropped three straight matches and five of their last six entering tonight’s contest. For the year the Savages are led individually by Sierra Davis with 220 kills, good for fifth best in the conference, Leah Carter with 445 assists, second in the South Iowa Cedar League and Brook Waechter with 228 digs, sixth best in the SICL.

Tri-County enters tonight’s match with a 2-21 overall record. The Trojans finished conference play with a 1-9 record, their lone win coming on October 12th against English Valleys. Tri-County is led on the season by Michaela Lundy with 86 kills, Myrissa Garber with 96 assists and Ginny Schmidt with 149 digs. Sigourney and Tri-County squared off twice during the regular season with Sigourney earning the sweep each time. The first came on Saturday, September 19th in New Sharon with Sigourney taking the tournament match 21-18 and 22-20. The second was Thursday, September 24th in Thornburg where the Savages took the match 27-25, 25-11 and 25-19.

The winner of tonight’s match will be in action Tuesday at New London against the New London Tigers who won their regional opener in straight sets over Fairfield Maharishi 25-4, 25-4, and 25-3.

Action between the Savages and the Trojans begins tonight at 7PM at Sigourney High School.
