The Sigourney Savage Cross Country team will play host to the best in the South Iowa Cedar League on Thursday when they host the annual SICL cross country meet.

This meet is completely wide open on paper with no teams currently ranked on the boys or girls side and just one ranked runner participating in the entire field. Dakota Hostetter, a Junior from Colfax-Mingo checks in at number eight in the latest class 1A girls poll. Participating in the meet from the KCII listening area are the Keota and Sigourney Cross Country teams. Other teams from around the conference include Belle Plaine, BGM, English Valleys, HLV, Lynnville-Sully, Montezuma, North Mahaska, Tri-County and Colfax Mingo.

Last time out for the Savages, they ran at Montezuma on October 8th. The Sigourney girls took fourth in the eight team field with their score of 129 points, South Tama was the girls team champion with 49 points. Top finisher for the Savages was Madaline Berg in 20th with her time of 26:31.65. Top girls overall finisher was Dakota Hostetter of Colfax-Mingo with her time of 22:53.56. Other Sigourney finishers included Paige Thompson 26th, Jasmine Abel 27th, Summer Barthelman 28th, Megan Montgomery 36th, Sarina Gretter 37th, and  Lainey Graff 41st.

The Sigourney boys also ran at Montezuma on October 8th, placing sixth in the 10 team field with their score of 124 points. Pella Christian took the team championship with their score of 80 points. Top finisher for Sigourney was Tyler Crawford, fourth overall, with his time of 19:05.75. Individual meet champion was Blake Keller of South Tama with his time of 18:14.78. Other finishers for the Savages included Will Flanegin 12th, Luke House 23rd, Tristan Bell 38th, Aaron Michel 51st, Kaleb Reeves 66th, Gavin Jones 70th, Jesse Fritz 73rd, Trey Shafranek 77th, Noah Reeves 84th and Eric Meiners 87th.

The Keota Eagles last action was also at the Montezuma Invitational on October 8th. The Eagles did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score at the event. They were led by Logan Sieren in seventh with his time of 19:39.35. Other finishers for the Eagles included Turner Klein in 15th, Dylan Burgdorf in 53rd, and Jason Ree in 64th. Action at the South Iowa Cedar League Cross Country meet begins Thursday at 4:30 at the Sigourney Golf Club.
