Last year 51 people died in Iowa in motorcycle accidents, in the first eight months this year there have been 32 fatalities. Data for September and October is not yet available. This year, only three of those fatalities were confirmed to have been wearing helmets.

So far this year, 260 people have died in traffic accidents across Iowa, 16 more than this time last year. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, nearly 50 percent of those who died in crash-related incidents were not wearing seat belts.
