One game separates the No. 8 Winfield-Mount Union football team (8-0 overall; 5-0 Class A District 6) from a perfect regular season record. Thirteen members of the Wolves football team are set to be honored tonight as W-MU finishes their regular season slate with the No. 9 Pekin Panthers (7-1 overall; 5-0 Class A District 6). The game serves as the unofficial district championship game as the winner will take the District 6 title.

Both teams enter the final game of the regular season among the top 10 teams in Class A football in scoring this season. W-MU has scored 370 points this season, sitting second in the state. Pekin’s 306 points scored this season is the 10th most in Class A Football.

A major reason for the point totals has been the play of each team’s quarterback. W-MU senior Kolt Rossister leads the district with 1,114 yards passing; Pekin junior Trevor Northup is second with 926 passing yards recorded. The two have combined to throw 29 touchdown passes and just three interceptions.

Pekin’s only loss of the season came during non-district play, a 44-12 setback to Class 1A Sigourney-Keota (5-3 overall) in week 2. Both teams have clinched a top two finish in the district, and hosting rights for Wednesday’s first round of the playoffs.
