Since August, nearly 100 Washington High School students have been practicing music and marching to prepare for this fall’s marching band season and the time and effort the students put in to practice is reaping its rewards. The Washington High School marching band has competed in four competitions and placed no lower than second place. This past Saturday the band placed second in class 3A and had the best drum line and drum major in the class.

Earlier this season they took first place at the Fort Madison Classic and have collected the following awards for their horn line, color guard and have twice been named the fan favorite.

Saturday the band will march in the state competition in Pella at 1:30 p.m. and then Waukee at 5:15 p.m.

The Demon field show this year is titled Dante’s Descent and it follows Dante’s journeys through the underworld from the Divine Comedy.
