Tomorrow the City of Washington’s fall clean up event will begin. This year’s event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Residents of Washington will be able to get rid of junk, furniture, and household hazardous waste like oil-based paint. Also, appliances will be accepted for $5 and electronics at $10 each.

The City will assist with special pickups of appliances for those who are unable to take them to the site for an additional $5 per appliance; to schedule a pick up contact City Hall today (653-6584).

The central site drop-off was approved by the city council earlier this year. Only cash will be accepted on site and the event is beign held at the waste water treatment plant and yard waste center, located at 1065 West Buchanan Street.

Items not accepted:
– household garbage
– concrete, brick and rock
– hazardous materials such as but no limited to: explosives, drugs, materials soaked in volatile chemicals
– tires and waste oil
– shingles
– latex paint (if paint is dried, cans can be disposed of in regular garbage)
– items from outside Washington City limits
