The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents in southeast Iowa of an apparent scam underway. They have received numerous reports from people who said they had received a phone call saying they had missed jury duty. The caller then tells them they had an option of paying a fine or being arrested. The caller then tells the resident to go to a Walmart or CVS and wait for instructions on how to send the money.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reminds area residents that fines are not collected this way and to never send money to anyone they don’t know in this manner.
