It’s been a big reading week in Kerri Bell’s second grade class at Kalona Elementary School. They have been celebrating National Young Reader’s Week all week long.

The class had activities centered around reading including special guests reading to the class each day. Guest readers included Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider, high school principal Jim Cayton, along with school board members and others. Bell says you just can’t emphasize reading enough, especially in this day and age of technology. The goal is to make sure reading doesn’t get lost in all the technology available to kids today.

Tomorrow is the wrap up day, when the kids can bring a healthy snack, a blanket or sleeping bag and pillow from home for Camp Read-A-Lot Day, with reading taking place throughout the day.
