The Washington Demon football team (7-3 overall) garnered several postseason accolades. The coaches of Class 3A District 5 voted eight Demon players to the all-district squad, seven players as honorable mentions, and chose head coach Garrison Carter as the district’s Coach of the Year.

Sophomore Ryan Reighard made the all-district squad as a quarterback. In his first year under center, Reighard led the district in scoring with 192 points, amassing 2,784 yards of total offense. He did most of his damage with his legs, rushing for a district-best 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Senior Jack Giardino made the all-district squad in his final high school football season. A running back and safety for the Demons, Giardino made a significant impact on both sides of the ball. Giardino rushed for 722 yards and 10 touchdowns as the Demons’ primary running back. He made 50 tackles and intercepted two passes as the Demons’ starting safety. Giardino was named an honorable mention all-district player last season.

Sophomore Javionn Willis was selected to his first all-district football team. A wide receiver and cornerback for Washington, Willis led the district in two offensive and a defensive categories. He made a team-high 54 catches for a district best 785 yards, scoring 10 touchdowns, which also leads the district. He also intercepted four passes, leading the district.

Junior Bryce Sinn finds himself a part of the all-district football team for the first time. A two way starter, Sinn played tight end and defensive end for the Demons. Sinn had 61 total tackles this season, eight tackles for loss, and recorded three sacks. He also caught nine passes for 114 yards.

Another Demon making his initial appearance on the all-district football team is senior Ethan Hansen. A wide receiver and linebacker for Washington, Hansen made impacts on both sides of the football. Hansen recorded 312 yards of total offense, scoring two touchdowns. He also made 85 total tackles, the second most on the team, forcing five tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Junior Seth Townsen has been voted to the all-district football team for a second straight season as an offensive and defensive lineman. Townsen played left tackle on the Demon offensive line, assisting Washington in averaging 383.6 yards of total offense per game and 329 total points this season. He also had 51 total tackles, five for loss.

Senior Tanner Renoux is an all-district football player for the first time in his career. The Demons’ starting center helped the offense amass 3,836 of total offense, averaging 32.9 points per game.

Washington’s final all-district award winner was sophomore Tanner Murphy. Murphy was a starting inside linebacker for the Demons, making a team-high 92 tackles and recording three sacks.

Seniors Michael Ellingson, Bryce Rickey and Dakota Suchan, juniors Karlton Skubal, Aaron Vittetoe, and Trey Van Weelden, and sophomore Mark Engleken were all selected as honorable mention all-district athletes.

Finally, coach Garrison Carter was voted the district’s Coach of the Year. Carter has collected a 15-7 overall record in his two seasons as the Demons’ head football coach, extending Washington’s postseason appearance streak to four seasons.

Washington finished the 2015 season with a 7-3 overall record, losing in the first round to the Solon Spartans, 17-14 in overtime.
