Another season of Highland Huskies (1-0 overall) girls’ basketball tipped off Tuesday evening in rural Riverside. The Huskies welcomed the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (1-0 overall) to Washington County for the season opener for both squads. Highland’s defense held W-MU to nine first half points, pushing the Huskies to a 53-21 victory.

Three players scored in double figures for Highland during the season opener. The backcourt of senior Cheyann Adamson and junior Kelsey Hora outscored the Wolves, contributing 15 points a piece in the victory.

Adamson was six-for-eight from the free throw line and swiped four steals defensively. Hora, Highland’s 5-foot-3-inch point guard, grabbed down seven rebounds in the win.

Highland freshman Aly Stokes scored 10 points, snatched seven rebounds, and dished out four assists in her first varsity basketball action.

The win starts Highland’s season on the right track with a 1-0 overall record. The Huskies return to the court on Tuesday, battling the Cardinal Comets at Highland High School.

The setback starts the W-MU Wolves’ season 0-1 overall. The Wolves open their home schedule this Saturday, entertaining the West Liberty Comets in a non-conference tilt.
