Today is National Rural Health Day, a day set aside to recognize rural health care providers and the patients they serve. In Iowa alone there are 90 rural hospitals and over 150 certified rural health clinics.

The newest of the rural health clinics is the Kalona clinic which opened earlier this month by Washington County Hospital and Clinics. CEO Dennis Hunger says this is an effort by the hospital to help to provide more health care in the rural areas of Washington County. Hunger says bringing more health care options is an important part of being a county hospital. You can hear our complete interview with Hunger during In Touch with Southeast Iowa on KCII Radio and at KCIIRadio.com.
