A grassroots group of citizens has formed to help support the schools in Keota. The Keota Education Advocacy Team was born from a suggestion during a board meeting that a focus group might be able to provide some support to the schools in Keota.

The group has started small and is now looking to expand their membership. Sheila Horras is the organizer of the group and she says they are active in several areas from talking to state legislators on behalf of small rural districts to fundraising to help the Keota schools’ general fund.

The group currently has five committees to focus on certain areas. Horras says a big goal of the team is to keep the school in Keota open. Anyone interested in joining the group can contact Horras.
