The Mid-Prairie and Highland girls basketball teams squared off in the night cap of Thursday’s Mid-Prairie girls basketball jamboree at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.The Golden Hawks topped the Huskies 28-20. Highland got out to a fast start, scoring the first basket of the contest and holding a 12-9 lead at the quarter break behind good rebounding and easy baskets breaking the Mid-Prairie press. In the second quarter the Golden Hawks dropped out of the press and turned up the half court pressure, forcing the Huskies to commit 17 turnovers.

Mid-Prairie was led in the match up by Ali Butters with eight points, Alex Rath and Ireland Hochstetler each had six. Emily Cayton and Addison Rath each finished with five boards. Highland was led on the night by Cheyann Adamson and her six points. Mid-Prairie opens the season Tuesday when they host Fairfield. Highland opens the year Tuesday when they entertain Winfield-Mount Union.
