Twelve car accidents were reported in Washington County Friday evening and Saturday, with at least six cars sliding into the ditches along Highway 218. A tow ban was put into effect Friday night until mid-morning Saturday.
At 9:50 p.m. Friday, a semi jackknifed on Highway 218, near 325th Street, near Crawfordsville, and both northbound lanes of the highway were blocked. A towing company from Mt. Pleasant removed the semi and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources was notified. Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and Iowa State Patrol units responded to the scene. The driver was from California.
Crawfordsville Fire responded to another accident on Highway 218, when a sedan slid in a steep ditch at 9:06 p.m. No injuries were reported but the occupant needed help getting out due to the embankment. The vehicle was left in place due to the tow ban being in effect at that time.
