Across Washington County, just over 13 percent of registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election. Of those who voted, 694 people marked “yes” for the $2 million bond measure for Washington County Public Health while 1,254 voted “no” or 64.4 percent. Danielle Pettit-Majewski, administrator of Washington County Public Health, tells KCII she has reached out to the Building and Finance Committee to see how they’d like to proceed, as there is still a need for more space for the department.

Currently the department has a $50,000 line item each year for rent and utilities and operates on three floors in the Federation Bank building. Public Health has been renting space for their offices and clinics at four different locations over the last 10 years.

The precinct with the highest voter turnout was Riverside with 361 people, about 34 percent of the registered voters. Riverside and Kalona precincts were the only two in the county to have more people vote in favor of the measure than against it.
