A memorial for soldiers of the World War can be seen in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Companies, offices and other services are closed today in observance of Veterans Day. County offices, including the Washington County Courthouse and Washington County Public Health are closed today. Also, the United States Postal Service will not deliver mail today in observance of the holiday. Banks are closed, as is Washington City Hall. The Washington Public Library is also closed today.

In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as the first commemoration of Armistice Day and it became an annual legal holiday in 1938.
