The last three football seasons have seen four Washington athletes rush for over 1,000 yards. The newest member to join the Demons’ elite rushing club is sophomore quarterback Ryan Reighard.

A running back in his earlier years of football, Reighard ran the ball 237 times this fall, 116 more attempts than Demon senior running back Jack Giardino. Reighard amassed 1,579 yards and scored 21 touchdowns with his legs, the best in Class 3A District 5 in both categories.

Reighard rushed for more yards during his first year of varsity football than last year’s feature running back Jacob Henningan and his predecessor at quarterback Daryn Sebelius. Henningan collected 1,516 yards and 17 touchdowns during his senior season, while Sebelius rushed for 1,127 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. Reighard also rushed for more yards than 2014 graduate Alex Coker, who rushed for 1,497 yards and 25 touchdowns during the Demons’ state championship run in 2013.

Reighard put together several 200-plus yard single game performances as well. Reighard had four games where he rushed for over 200 yards, including a career high 231 yards in Washington’s week 5 victory over the Solon Spartans.

Washington finished the 2015 season Wednesday, falling 17-14 in overtime to the Solon Spartans (6-4 overall) in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. Reighard is set to return for his junior football season in 2016 despite a broken arm, along with four starters from this year’s offensive line.
