As you head out for the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be one additional thing to be thankful for. Gas prices this year will be the lowest over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend since 2009.

The website Gasbuddy.com is projecting the national average for a gallon of gas will be below $2.00 for the first time since March of 2009. That will save travelers over $1.5 billion over the long holiday weekend.

The lowest prices in the state of Iowa are right here in southeast Iowa. The price in at several locations in Mt. Pleasant and Olds are selling gasoline for just $1.79 per gallon. The highest price in the state of Iowa is in New Vienna where gas is selling for $2.79 per gallon.

If you’re traveling over the long holiday weekend, be sure to drive carefully.
