Lightning, thunder and rain swept across southeast Iowa Thursday evening. Washington received nearly four-tenths of an inch of rain. Wind gusts reached 32 miles per hour with wind speeds in the mid-twenties most of the evening. According to the National Weather Service, so far this year Washington has observed 33.4 inches of precipitation, about 1.4 inches above normal.
