A program at the Winfield-Mt. Union schools is doing it’s best to make sure students have plenty of food over the weekend when away from school. The backpack program is powered by the efforts of Dale Williams, who also acts as treasurer of the group. They are currently serving up to 33 families each weekend. The backpack program is a 501-C3 not for profit which is governed by a board that meets monthly.

Each Friday the kids involved in the program take home a backpack loaded with food. They then return the backpack the following week to be refilled before the next weekend. The group has been receiving donations from all over the area.

If you’re interested in getting involved with the program or making a donation you can contact Brooke McArtor at the Winfield-Mt. Union school at 319-257-7700, extension 114.
