A pair of southeast Iowa natives, who play college football in northwest Missouri, are set to be honored during their final home football game of their careers tomorrow afternoon. The Missouri Western State University Griffons (5-5 overall) are looking to improve their 2015 record above .500 when they host the Missouri Southern Lions (1-9 overall) tomorrow morning at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Seventeen Griffon seniors are set to be honored before their final home football game, including a pair 2010 graduates from the KCII listening area. Washington native Nick Williams and Mount Union native and Mount Pleasant graduate Leonard Wester, are among the players to be recognized tomorrow. The 2015 class of Griffon seniors have amassed 32 wins during their collegiate career.

Both Williams and Wester were recruited by the Griffons to play along the team’s offensive line. Williams has started 25 games for Missouri Western, appearing in five this fall. Wester has made 29 career starts, including 10 this season.

Williams says he has become very close with Wester over the years. “It was really nice coming in with someone you know and you are good friends with instead of sitting in a room filled with people you don’t know.” Williams said, “From there, we sprouted a friendship from there. He is going to be a part of my wedding and I love the kid.”

The pair are among six players from the KCII listening area who suit up for the Missouri Western Griffon football team. The others include Washington graduates Brock Kimball (2012) and Thomas Bump (2015) and Mount Pleasant graduates Blake Vandenburg (2012) and Emmett Wester (2013).

Kickoff between the Griffons and the Missouri Southern Lions is set for 11 a.m. tomorrow from Spratt Stadium.
