A mid-November snow storm postponed the season opener for the Highland Huskies girls’ basketball team to tonight. The Huskies, who were scheduled to open their season last Friday versus the Keota Eagles, will now begin their season versus their Southeast Iowa Super Conference rivals, the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves. Highland’s game with Keota has been rescheduled to Monday, December 21st.

The Huskies lost seven seniors off of last year’s 15-8 campaign, including first team all-conference performer Chelsey Lampe and honorable mention selections Katie Springer and Samantha Duton. Second team all-conference guards senior Cheyanne Adamson and junior Kelsey Hora return for the Huskies after notable performances a year ago.

Adamson returns as the Huskies’ leading scorer, recording 234 points as a junior, an average of 10.2 per game. Hora was Highland’s best free throw shooter last season, converting 77 percent of her attempts from the line last season (43-56).

The Wolves make their season debut as well tonight, looking to start the season off on the right foot.W-MU returns five players who played over 40 quarters of varsity basketball during last seasons 3-19 campaign. The Wolves’ biggest hole to fill this year will be at the point guard position. Karlie Wade averaged a team-high 13.8 points and 2.8 steals during her senior year, and was the Wolves’ primary ball handler last season.

It’s a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North tilt tonight in rural Riverside as the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves travel to Washington County to face the Highland Huskies. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Highland High School.
