It’s been an exciting week for the YMCA of Washington County with three county entities donating to their new building fund. On Tuesday, the Washington County Board of Supervisors agreed to gift $10,000 for the YMCA’s $1.5 million Vision Iowa grant application. Also, the Washington City Council agreed to award $50,000 in the form of the land for the proposed new building on West 5th Street. The Washington County Riverboat Foundation shocked YMCA representatives at their fall grant ceremony Wednesday, first stating they’d award $500,000 but then gradually increasing it to $3.5 million.

The YMCA of Washington County is working to build a new $10.8 million facility that will include a four-lane swimming pool, a full gymnasium, a walking track and room for fitness classes, as well as outdoor space for activities. The current facility was built in 1924 and is not handicapped accessible.
