West Branch Freshman Beau Cornwell set the school varsity individual scoring record for points in a game Tuesday night leading the Bears to a 73-44 win over the Mid-Prairie boys basketball team in West Branch.

The freshman phenom finished the contest with 46 points, 31 of those coming in the second half. Cornwell drained six three pointers en route to the record setting performance. Mid-Prairie held a 10-7 lead late in the first quarter, but the Bears ended the frame with a 5-0 run that included a Cornwell three at the buzzer and West Branch didn’t look back. The Bears led 35-23 at the half and stretched that lead to 30 in the second half. Mid-Prairie was led on the night by Derek Rich with his 13 points. With the loss Mid-Prairie falls to 0-7 on the season and in conference play. The Golden Hawks are off until January 9th when they travel to North Cedar.
