The long layoff between the first and second games of the new basketball season ends this afternoon for the Washington Demon girls’ team (1-0 overall). Twelve days have passed since the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (1-0 overall) opened the Jordan Bentley coaching era with a 38-34 overtime triumph over the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets (0-1 overall). The Demons resume regular season play this afternoon, visiting the Solon Spartans for a non-conference tilt.
Coach Bentley says he’s been working with the girls on improving their rebounding fundamentals during the break. The Rockets brought down 37 total rebounds in the season opener, 10 of which were on the offensive end. Washington is also looking to clean up their mental mistakes, committing 22 turnovers against the Eddyville-Blakesburg.
The Demon seniors accounted for more than 90 percent of the teams offense, scoring 33 of the 38 points in their season debut. Addie Pacha led the way with nine points. Morgan Kimball and Amber Salow chipped in seven points a piece, while Brynna DeLong and McKayla Miller each contributed five points.
Tip off of the varsity girls contest is set for 2:30 p.m. today at Solon High School.
