The first half of the season for the Washington Demon basketball programs concluded Tuesday on the road.As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons were in Marion last night for a varsity doubleheader versus the Indians.

It was another slow start for the Washington girls’ basketball team (2-5 overall; 0-2 Southeast), who fell 65-44 to Marion (6-2 overall). The Indians jumped out to an 36-15 advantage at halftime, and each team scored 29 second half points. Washington senior Addie Pacha recorded a double-double, scoring all 11 of her points in the second half. She brought down 10 rebounds in the loss. Marion sophomore Chloe Rice scored a game-high 16 points.

Offense was hard to come by for the Demon boys’ basketball team (2-5 overall; 1-1 Southeast). Washington was held under 40 points in a 61-39 setback.  Battling foul trouble, Washington senior Derek Anding still led the team with 16 points. Junior John Dillon added eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Marion sophomore Chase Zielke was one of three Indians who scored in double figures, leading the way with 16 points.

Washington’s basketball teams end the first half of the season with identical 2-5 overall records. The Demon girls open competition in 2016 at home against the Burlington Greyhounds, while the boys’ team will entertain the Iowa Mennonite School on January 2.
