It has been a successful early season stretch for the Highland Huskies’ basketball programs. Both squads enter the final games of the 2015 calendar year with one loss, while combining to win 11 contests. The two will be in action tonight in rural Riverside, hosting a pair of non-conference opponents.

The Huskies girls’ basketball team (6-1 overall) is coming off two convincing wins against Southeast Iowa Super Conference North teams. Highland picked up a 66-32 victory on the road versus Lone Tree, and traveled to Mediapolis Friday earning a 71-57 triumph over the No. 15 Bullettes. Huskies senior guard Cheyann Adamson scored 38 points in the pair of wins, while junior guard Kelsey Hora added 37. Tonight, the Keota Eagles (0-6 overall) invade Highland High School for a non-conference tilt. The Eagles are led in scoring by Raigan Sprouse, who is averaging 5.6 points per game. This game was originally scheduled to be played November 21, but an early winter snow storm forced its postponement.

Following the girls’ game, the Huskies boys’ basketball team (5-1 overall) will face a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South division foe as the Notre Dame Nikes (4-3 overall) makes the trip to northeast Washington County for the conference cross over game. Highland picked up two road wins last week. Last Tuesday, the Huskies went to Lone Tree and came away with a 59-38 win. They ended the week in Mediapolis, grinding out a 68-62 victory over the Bulldogs. Junior forward Trent Lasek scored 43 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the pair of wins. Notre Dame’s leading scorer is Xavier Williams, who posted 89 points in their first four games of the year.

The varsity doubleheader is set to tip off at 6 p.m. at Highland High School.
