The Washington Demon basketball teams were ended their 2015 home schedule with a pair of losses Friday. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons hosted the Keokuk Chiefs in a Southeast Conference doubleheader.

Scoring came at a premium last night for the Demon girls’ basketball team (2-4 overall; 0-2 Southeast), who posted six points in the first half and no points in the second quarter. No. 7 Keokuk closed the first half with a 23-6 lead, cruising to a 48-31 win versus Washington. This marks the third straight win for the Chiefs in the series.

Washington senior forward Addie Pacha was named the Washington County Hospital and Clinics Player of the Game for the girls squad, posting eight of her team-high nine points in the second half. She also grabbed five rebounds in the setback.

A late run by the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team made things interesting in the final quarter. Trailing 59-41 entering the last eight minutes of the game, Washington poured in 29 points into the frame, getting as close as 72-67. Keokuk closed on a 7-2 run, making the final score, 79-69.

The Demons were led in scoring by Derek Anding, the Washington County Hospital and Clinic Player of the Game. The senior shooting guard scored a team-high 27 points in the setback, his third straight game with 24 or more points scored.

The loss drops both team’s overall records to 2-4 on the year. The last game of the 2015 calendar year for the Washington Demons will be Tuesday as they travel to Marion for a non-conference varsity doubleheader with the Indians.
