Two basketball games rendered similar results for the Lone Tree Lions basketball programs Monday evening. The Lions girls’ and boys’ teams paid a visit to the Eagles Nest yesterday, battling the Keota Eagles in a non-conference doubleheader.

Game one was a low scoring battle between the schools’ girls squads with Lone Tree winning the grind, 36-15. The Lions (2-1 overall) held Keota (0-1 overall) to five points after halftime, posting their best defensive effort of the season. Lone Tree shared the offensive wealth with five players scoring seven or more points in the victory. Junior Elena Sieverding led the Lions with eight points. Keota’s Cortney Hyman was the game’s leading scorer, recording nine points in the loss.

Game two featured two fast-paced offenses with the Lions outlasting the Eagles, 68-63. Lone Tree (1-0 overall) overcame a 35-29 halftime deficit to win its first game of the season. Lion junior Jovonte Squires scored a game-high 21 points and dished out 10 assists in the victory. Keota (0-1 overall) senior Isaiah Hahn led the Eagles with 15 points in the setback.

Both schools will be back on the court tonight. Lone Tree is set to travel to Columbus Junction for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference double header against the Wildcats. Keota opens their South Iowa Cedar League schedule in Belle Plaine, battling the Plainsman.
